When navigating the treacherous minefields of motherhood, one must wear gloves
impervious to toxic waste and clothing that can withstand repeated bodily fluid
saturation, but also have the strength of an army, the intelligence of a spy, and the
patience of a saint to raise a child “From Positive Test to Empty Nest.”
One bright sunny day, I was enjoying a single coveted quiet moment of motherhood,
meaning there were no dirty dishes, no laundry, no vacuuming, no bunnies flying
through the air, and no kids screaming. I should have known something was up, but
hey, I took that window of opportunity to listen to my inner self. My inner self was
saying, very loudly I might add, “I cannot possibly be the only mother in the whole
world that babbles like an idiot, talks aloud to herself, and thinks that Batman and
Zorro having a duel to the death in her living room while she scrapes peanut butter
and jelly sandwiches from the kitchen ceiling is completely normal!”
With that said, you may enter the realm of my world where children abound, bunnies
do indeed attempt flight, horses drink beer, boys think they are invincible, and chaos
is the norm.
There is so much humor to be found in the adventure they call motherhood. It goes
without saying my first memoir barely scratches the surface.
